Damage modeling of composite laminates at various temperatures

Résumé

In this paper the mechanical behavior of continuous fiber carbon-epoxy composite laminates submitted to in plane-loading at various temperatures is modelled at the elementary ply scale. Damage mechanisms are introduced by means of meso-damage variables associated to reduction of ply stiffness. Inelastic strains are also taken into account as is their coupling with damage. Compared to previous studies, attention is focused on the effects of temperature on a -120°/+120° range. Experiments at three main temperatures have appeared to be sufficient to get a precise knowledge of the single layer mechanical behavior up to rupture. The model leads to implicit failure criteria, for the laminate submitted to complex loading at various temperatures, which includes the different damage mechanisms.
