How can Venture Capitalists-Owners Managers conflicts be managed ? Evidence from a French case

Résumé

The present article investigates the dynamics that contribute to create an appropriate level of conflict in VCs-OMs (Venture Capitalists – Owner Managers) relationships. It identifies four mechanisms that enable VCs and OMs to manage tensions and how to avoid those that turn into potentially detrimental situations. The results strengthen the literature on VC-OM conflict by mobilizing a conflict intensity variable and by bringing evidence on how tensions can be managed so as not to evolve into conflicts. The article provides recommendations and additional knowledge about the ability to manage conflict intensity that are important in order to derive the potential benefits of opposing viewpoints while avoiding major disruptions between VCs and OMs.
