On the numerical modeling of eddy current nondestructive evaluation with the FEM-BEM TRIFOU software in controlled configurations

Résumé

Numerical modeling of the eddy current nondestructive evaluation of conductive planar structures (plates) and (to a lesser extent) cylindrical structures (tubes) affected by 3-D bounded void defects, is investigated. Results of the simulation software TRIFOU V4.2 (edge-based Finite-Element Method - Boundary-Element Method) from EDF - DER are confronted to a host of experimental and synthetic data; those are existing benchmarks as well as new sets, e.g., data measured by a High Tc SQUID magnetometer at INFM Naples, on laboratory-controlled samples, and modeled at the same time by a proven Volume Integral Method. This comprehensive study aims to contribute to a better appraisal of pros and cons of the TRIFOU tool, with respect to existing algorithmic tools and measurement devices.
